Busan City Provides 100,000 Won Transportation Allowance to Out-of-School Youth

Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund to Support Underprivileged Groups Together

Busan City Provides 100,000 Won Transportation Allowance to Out-of-School Youth Busan City Hall. Busan City plans to provide 100,000 KRW each for transportation expenses to out-of-school youth along with the citizen fund.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan City and the Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund will provide 100,000 KRW per person in transportation expenses to ‘out-of-school youth.’

The city announced on the 26th that despite difficulties caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), it will hold a ‘Transportation Expense Support Ceremony’ at 3 p.m. on the 27th in the city hall conference room to support vulnerable youth who have been relatively excluded from aid.

The support targets a total of 3,000 individuals, including high school seniors who are basic livelihood security recipients and out-of-school youth using the Out-of-School Youth Support Center preparing for the qualification exam. Each will receive one transportation card worth 100,000 KRW through the district offices and 17 ‘Out-of-School Youth Support Centers Kumdeulim’ in the city.

The Citizen Fund was established in November 2016 and has been working to enhance convenience for citizens using public transportation and engaging in social contribution activities.

Busan City expects that this transportation expense support will encourage these youths’ studies and leisure activities and provide practical assistance. After supporting transportation cards last year, the number of qualification exam takers at the Out-of-School Youth Support Centers, which averaged 411 over three years with 310 in 2016, 464 in 2017, and 459 in 2018, increased to 625.

A Busan City official said, “We hope this support will be a small help to youths who must focus on exam preparation despite being exhausted from COVID-19.”
