Full-scale Promotion of Projects for Greenhouse Gas Reduction, Energy Cost Savings, and Living Environment Improvement... From June, Installation of Fine Dust Screens and Solar Heat Blocking Cool Roofs at 29 Daycare Centers... 100% Completion of Harmful Air Information Display System Installation at 37 Sites by September
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (District Mayor Yudonggyun) has secured a total of over 1.1 billion KRW in national and city funds for eco-friendly projects such as renewable energy distribution, energy efficiency, and fine dust reduction, and will begin full-scale project implementation starting in June.
The district actively participated in Seoul City's public contest projects this year and secured a total of 1.111 billion KRW for environmental and energy projects.
Specifically, the budget secured by the district includes 162 million KRW from Seoul City's energy efficiency project for facilities for the elderly and children, 200 million KRW for LED lighting replacement support in vulnerable facilities such as those for children, 150 million KRW for maintenance of the air quality information display system and installation of fine dust reduction benches, 8 million KRW for the Eco Mileage Excellent District project to promote household energy saving, 54 million KRW for cool roof installation on children's facility rooftops using development support funds, and 537 million KRW for mini solar power systems in homes, solar power and solar thermal projects in communal buildings, totaling over 1.1 billion KRW.
With this secured budget, the district plans to begin active investment this year in projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gases, lowering energy costs, and improving a comfortable living environment within the region.
Starting in June, the district will carry out a cool roof project by installing thermal insulation windows and fine dust insect screens in 29 facilities for the elderly and children such as daycare centers, and applying solar heat blocking coatings on building rooftops.
Additionally, an LED indoor lighting replacement project for energy saving will be promoted in 41 daycare centers.
Furthermore, the district plans to complete 100% installation by September of an air quality information display system at 37 locations in the region, which was first introduced nationwide last September by utilizing existing parking guidance electronic boards to display harmful air information such as fine dust and ozone.
Moreover, five fine dust indicator traffic light-type devices will be installed, and three fine dust reduction benches where residents can sit and rest will be additionally installed.
To maximize energy efficiency at the Mapo Art Center, which is responsible for residents' cultural life, a combined solar power and solar thermal energy production facility will be installed, and the project to improve building energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases will also be fully implemented starting in June.
Through these projects, the district expects to reduce 162 tons of greenhouse gases annually and save about 50 million KRW per year in public utility costs such as electricity and gas through energy efficiency.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, “Along with the ongoing 5 million tree planting project, we will focus on creating a comfortable living environment that residents can feel by ensuring the smooth progress of eco-friendly projects.”
