[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) has canceled the Asiana Airlines Open and the MY Munyoung Queens Park Championship scheduled for July.
The KLPGA Tour Secretariat announced on the 25th, "We have repeatedly discussed the tournament hosting with the title sponsors Asiana Airlines and Munyoung Group," adding, "Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), we have ultimately decided to cancel." The Asiana Airlines Open (total prize money of 700 million KRW) was planned to be held from July 10, and the MY Munyoung Queens Park Championship (total prize money of 600 million KRW) was scheduled for three days starting July 17. "Both tournaments will be held again in 2021," they added.
Since the opening event of the 2020 season, the Hyosung Championship held in Vietnam last December, the KLPGA Tour has seen a series of cancellations due to the spread of COVID-19, including the Taiwan Ladies Open, Lotte Rent-a-Car Ladies Open, Celltrion Queens Masters, Nexen Saint Nine Masters, Kyochon Honey Ladies Open, NH Investment & Securities Ladies Championship, and Doosan Match Play Championship. Last week, the KLPGA Championship was successfully completed as the first tournament held among global tours.
