[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Yoon Sang-hyun, Chairman of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Trade Committee, criticized the quiet stance of our government and military regarding North Korea's nuclear weapons on the 25th, saying, "Our military is trapped in forced silence."
On the same day, Chairman Yoon stated on his Facebook, "This is unusual. On the 22nd day, Kim Jong-un, the State Affairs Commission Chairman, appeared and gathered military officers, holding a 2-meter-long operational baton," revealing this.
He referred to Kim Jong-un's order at the Workers' Party Central Military Commission meeting to "strengthen nuclear war deterrence," pointing out, "They could choose a direct military attack on South Korea or launch an Intermediate-Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM), but our military is trapped in forced silence."
Chairman Yoon expressed concern, saying, "It seems the Kim Jong-un regime intends to overcome the internal and external crises it has brought upon itself by provoking new crises," and added, "If the new 3,000-ton class SLBM (Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missile submarine), which is already considered imminent, is launched, it will be a game changer."
He also said, "Within the government, there is a rampant argument to abolish the May 24 measures, which are countermeasures against North Korea's Cheonan sinking, yet no minister or general says, 'We cannot forgive North Korea's war crime of attacking the Cheonan as things stand,'" and added, "North Korea's movements are unusual, but our military's preparedness appears too complacent."
