[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) originating from Itaewon clubs has reached 233.
Yoon Tae-ho, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' quarantine team, stated at a regular briefing held at the Government Complex Sejong on the 25th, "As of midnight today, there are 233 patients related to Itaewon clubs."
So far, 82,000 tests have been conducted in connection with Itaewon clubs. It was found that community transmission through visitors was higher than cases directly visiting the clubs.
Yoon emphasized, "Looking at the past two weeks, although a large-scale outbreak has not occurred since the Itaewon club cases, sporadic transmissions continue nationwide," adding, "Chain infections caused by the Itaewon cluster infection are repeating."
Accordingly, the quarantine authorities have disclosed the names of multi-use facilities visited by confirmed patients whose identification is limited.
Yoon urged, "If you visited these facilities at the same time as the confirmed patients, you should get tested regardless of whether you have symptoms."
