After being postponed five times due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak, in-person school attendance for 12th graders began on the 20th. On the 27th, 11th graders, 9th graders, 1st and 2nd graders in elementary school, and kindergarteners started attending school, with 10th graders, 8th graders, and 3rd and 4th graders in elementary school scheduled to return on June 3rd, followed by 7th graders and 5th and 6th graders in elementary school on June 8th for phased in-person classes.
Concerns about COVID-19 infection risks could not be ruled out, but factors such as early admissions, dual-income and single-parent families’ childcare needs, character education through peer relationships, and worries about basic academic skills lagging behind were the reasons behind pushing for the reopening of schools.
However, concerns about in-person schooling remain, and parents are staying vigilant. In response, WiseCamp, an elementary smart learning program by Visang Education, the publisher of elementary math textbooks, is providing a learning curriculum that combines in-person and remote classes to help students continue their studies at home where learning may be insufficient.
WiseCamp offers 1:1 homeroom teacher care, providing personalized timetables tailored to the different school progress by region and school, along with learning management. It also includes participatory activities for all subjects across all grades, storytelling learning for all subjects, review questions, and error notebooks. After learning, students can reinforce their knowledge through Perfect Special Lectures, descriptive writing corrections, diagnostic evaluations, achievement assessments, performance assessments, and unit tests to prepare for exams. For subjects requiring advanced learning such as math and English, premium learning programs ‘Daeyuhyeong Panda’ and ‘Dudu English’ are provided to cover everything from basics to practical skills, math competitions, and official exams.
WiseCamp’s premium learning program ‘Daeyuhyeong Panda’ contains 370 math concept lectures and 1,100 representative math problem types for all elementary grades, enabling in-depth supplementary learning of the curriculum. Based on the results of solved problems, similar problems and evaluation questions are provided in a personalized manner, allowing children to repeatedly practice the types they find difficult and firmly grasp elementary math.
WiseCamp’s premium learning program ‘Dudu English’ offers learning content that covers everything from basic phonics to preparation for various official English exams. In addition to existing phonics, chants, and grammar, it recently launched Action Words and Parody Speaking content, enabling students to learn textbook English vocabulary and native speaker expressions.
Dudu English Action Words allows users to choose between American and British pronunciations, providing 900 essential vocabulary words and 120 lectures designated by the Ministry of Education and included in elementary English certified textbooks, making it suitable for all ages and official English exam preparation.
The newly launched Parody Speaking offers 60 lectures on key expressions compared to elementary English certified textbooks. It especially helps students accurately understand key core expressions with native pronunciation, practice pattern speaking by speaking out loud, and develop application skills through role-play methods.
For curriculum learning, WiseCamp uses its patented signature content Visual Thinking ‘Gaeppe Note’ and ‘Malppe Dictionary,’ allowing students to write and draw directly to establish study habits. Students can also share their work with other friends in the ‘Gaeppe World’ community, enhancing creativity, thinking skills, and expressive abilities.
In particular, WiseCamp’s online participatory group video classes, which have been conducted since before the implementation of online school openings, are remote classes conducted via video conferencing. These classes follow the same method as the Ministry of Education’s online video classes, enabling elementary students to fully engage in curriculum learning from home.
Unlike typical video counseling-level classes, these sessions involve students of the same grade as the WiseCamp homeroom teacher, with the teacher displaying actual lesson plans on the screen. Students learn together with up to 10 friends from different regions, fostering critical thinking, cooperation, presentation skills, and expressive abilities. This has attracted significant attention from elementary students and parents experiencing online school openings for the first time.
Kim Tae-jin, CEO of Visang Education’s WiseCamp, stated, “As tension and anxiety about in-person school reopening continue, we will consistently research and provide various learning contents that prepare for both in-person and remote classes to minimize learning gaps that elementary students and parents worry about.”
WiseCamp is currently running a 10-day free trial event through its official website, and all applicants for the free trial will receive one level-based Hanja workbook and one 2020 first-semester Visang Education math calculation workbook free of charge.
