KakaoTalk 'I am a monkey' hacking scare... Kakao says "Not true"

[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Kakao has denied rumors that clicking the 'Try pressing this' message bubble in KakaoTalk group chats leads to hacking.

On the 22nd, clicking the message in KakaoTalk caused the message "I am a monkey" to be sent automatically. Users quickly spread the message link by sharing it with others.

Subsequently, rumors circulated that "KakaoTalk's unique packets are being sniffed, which could be exploited for hacking or forced message sending." Packet sniffing is a type of hacking where packet information is intercepted in the middle of a network.

A Kakao representative stated, "The message bubble in question is a chatbot bubble different from regular messages. After recognizing this, we anticipated user inconvenience and confusion, so we implemented sharing restrictions," adding, "It is unrelated to hacking or sniffing."
