[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] On the 21st, the Miryang Arirang Space Observatory, which is attracting attention as the first specialized astronomical observatory in Korea focusing on 'exoplanets and extraterrestrial life,' and the National Miryang Meteorological Science Museum, where visitors can experience being a weather forecaster at the country's first National Meteorological Center, held their opening ceremonies simultaneously in the outdoor plaza.
The opening ceremony was successfully held with about 300 attendees, including Park Il-ho, Mayor of Miryang, Kim Jong-seok, Commissioner of the Korea Meteorological Administration, Ha Byung-pil, Deputy Governor of Gyeongsangnam-do, Kim Sang-deuk, Chairman of the Miryang City Council, as well as other key figures, provincial council members, city council members, and citizens.
The city originally planned to hold a grand opening ceremony but significantly reduced the number of attendees and scale to actively respond to the prevention of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Mayor Park Il-ho of Miryang said, "The observatory, equipped with the largest reflecting telescope in Gyeongnam and the meteorological science museum, which houses the country's largest tornado generator, are located together and have excellent accessibility to nearby large cities, allowing visitors to experience meteorological science and space astronomy education all at once. With world-class facilities and content, we expect it to provide dreams and new inspiration to children and students who will lead the future era."
