[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] It has been revealed that 80% of Gyeonggi Province residents believe that if COVID-19 cluster infections resurge, the quarantine system should be strengthened again to 'social distancing.'
According to a public opinion survey conducted by Gyeonggi Province on the 16th targeting 1,000 residents regarding the resurgence of COVID-19 following the 'Itaewon club' cluster infection, 43% of respondents answered that people are not adhering well to quarantine rules after the transition to everyday distancing. The percentage of respondents who answered 'well adhered' was 56%.
When asked whether the quarantine system should return to 'social distancing' if COVID-19 cluster infections spread mainly in entertainment establishments, 80% of respondents agreed.
The respondents identified places with a high risk of COVID-19 infection as entertainment establishments such as bars and clubs (81%), recreational facilities such as karaoke rooms and PC rooms (47%). This was followed by bathhouses (20%), educational facilities (11%), and shopping facilities (10%).
The government eased the quarantine system from 'social distancing' to 'everyday distancing' (life quarantine) starting from the 6th of this month. However, as infection cases centered around entertainment establishments such as clubs in Itaewon, Seoul increased before and after this change, concerns about a second wave of spread are growing.
