Should I Walk Like a ‘Yeonae Gosu’ or Follow the ‘Goemul’? 2020 Walking-Friendly Busan, Mission Walking Tour Poster (Photo by Busan Tourism Organization)

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] What if you went on a walking trip with the ‘Master of Love’ or ‘Frankenstein’? This quirky concept of a walking tour product is being ‘launched’ every Saturday throughout the streets of Busan.

On the 19th, Busan City announced that it will operate the urban walking-themed tourism program ‘2020 Walkable Busan, Mission Walking Tour’ in collaboration with the Busan Tourism Organization.

‘Walkable Busan, Mission Walking Tour’ goes beyond simple storytelling tours where you just listen to explanations while walking. It is a new concept of walking tourism product where participants enjoy themes accompanied by storytellers with characters that match the atmosphere of each neighborhood.

The first launch includes a total of six products. Five regular tour courses are introduced: Nam-gu’s Pyeonghwaro, Dong-gu’s Taoreugil, Suyeong-gu’s Jjakjigil, Jung-gu’s Jireumgil, and Yeongdo-gu’s Jirimgil. The streets of the Busan International Film Festival in Haeundae-gu await visitors as a special tour course. Each walking course offers enjoyable experiences including history, culture, shopping, and food.

Each course has a different genre. Pyeonghwaro is ‘documentary’, Taoreugil is ‘youth drama’, Jjakjigil is ‘romance’, Jireumgil is ‘variety show’, and Jirimgil is ‘thriller’. The travel products are developed with programs tailored to each theme, featuring various character storytellers who appear and conduct the tour like a play depending on the course.

Which characters appear on which paths? On Nam-gu’s Pyeonghwaro, a ‘history teacher’ appears; on Dong-gu’s Taoreugil, a ‘fiery senior’; on Suyeong-gu’s Jjakjigil, a ‘love expert’; and on Jung-gu’s Jireumgil, a ‘Busan ajumma’ speaking in a strong dialect, ready to show off her hearty and cheeky wit. Also, on Yeongdo-gu’s Jirimgil, ‘Dalgeoni’, who mimics a local gangster, appears. During the Busan International Film Festival period, a storyteller dressed as a movie actor will accompany visitors for two hours on the Haeundae-gu Busan Film Festival street.

The tour is not just about walking and listening. Each walking program is organized as a ‘Mission Walking Tour’ where participants are given tasks. The common mission, ‘Neullyuri~Manbo’, requires walking more than 10,000 steps. Additionally, various missions matching the genre of each course add more interest.

This unique walking tour starts at 10 a.m. every Saturday by course until November. The number of participants ranges from 7 to 20, and the participation fee is 10,000 KRW. You can select a product by clicking on the Busan Tourism Organization’s Walking Tour website or contacting the operating agency ‘Communication Daum’.
