[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Seegene is exporting its novel coronavirus (COVID-19) diagnostic kits to Brazil. The company plans to expand its sales channels to other countries in South America in the future.
Seegene announced on the 19th that it received a supply request for 10 million tests from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), a regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO), through its local subsidiary in Brazil, and has exported 5 million tests so far. Accordingly, Seegene will supply the 'AllplexTM 2019-nCoV Assay' to Brazil. They are also discussing plans to increase the volume by approximately 50 to 100% going forward.
PAHO, established in 1920, is the world's oldest international public health organization. It has 35 member countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador, and Peru. Starting with the contract with PAHO, Seegene is also in detailed discussions regarding supply contracts with state governments and the private sector in Brazil. The company plans to promote exports to other South American countries as well.
Meanwhile, Seegene is supplying COVID-19 diagnostic products to major European countries such as France, Germany, Italy, Spain, as well as Israel. Recently, it also obtained emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
A Seegene official stated, "This contract is an unprecedented large-scale supply agreement in the history of molecular diagnostics," adding, "Demand for Seegene products is explosively increasing worldwide, demonstrating that it is the most trusted high-volume testing system globally."
