Seongdong District Public Sports Facility Renovated, Ready to Welcome Visitors

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) is conducting large-scale remodeling construction of district-run sports facilities, including the Seongdong-gu Community Sports Center, utilizing the COVID-19 closure period, and will open them abruptly on June 1.

The newly renovated sports facilities include three locations: Seongdong-gu Community Sports Center, Open Kumho Education and Culture Center, and Majang National Sports Center. Until now, only small-scale facility repairs and maintenance had been carried out since their opening, but with the budget secured from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s special grant at the end of last year, this large-scale renovation became possible.

First, a full remodeling of the swimming pools, which are commonly installed in the three district-run sports facilities, was carried out. The outdated men’s and women’s shower facilities were completely refurbished, and residents can now enjoy safe and comfortable swimming pool facilities through air conditioner replacement, expansion of the children’s pool, and replacement of interior wall tiles.

The Open Kumho Education and Culture Center installed air purifiers and established a real-time indoor air quality management system to create a healthy resting space. Old gym equipment was replaced, and a nursing room was installed, focusing on the convenience of users.

At the Seongdong-gu Community Sports Center, to prevent safety accidents, the rusty ceiling texture of the swimming pool was replaced, and the infant and toddler classroom was expanded so that children can exercise in a comfortable environment.

Following the 2019 seismic performance evaluation, the Majang National Sports Center reinforced seismic resistance on office walls and installed kiosks and access systems to enable safe and convenient facility use.

Mayor Jung Won-oh said, “After the operation of district-run sports facilities was completely suspended due to the spread of COVID-19, remodeling construction was completed in line with the transition to ‘social distancing in daily life,’ and the district-run sports facilities are now being opened. We hope that sports activities in pleasant and safe facilities will provide some vitality to residents who have been restrained due to COVID-19.”
