The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission Recommends Expanding the Number of English Certification Exams for Licenses from 3 to 5 to the Financial Services Commission
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The English certification exams for the loss adjuster and insurance actuary qualification tests will now include G-TELP and FLEX. Until now, only TOEFL, TOEIC, and N-TEPS were recognized.
On the 18th, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced that it recommended the Financial Services Commission to improve the system by adding G-TELP and FLEX to the loss adjuster and insurance actuary exams, similar to other national official certification exams.
According to the Commission, G-TELP is an international English proficiency certification test developed by the International Test Service Center (ITSC) in the United States. FLEX is a nationally certified foreign language proficiency test developed by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
The Financial Services Commission sets the examination methods and subjects for the loss adjuster and insurance actuary qualifications, which are insurance professionals, through administrative regulations. The management is entrusted to the Korea Insurance Development Institute.
Currently, the English test in the first stage of these two qualification exams is replaced by one of three recognized English certification exams: TOEFL, TOEIC, or N-TEPS.
On the other hand, G-TELP and FLEX are also recognized in various national official exams such as the Grade 5 and Grade 7 national civil service exams and the diplomatic candidate exam.
Because of this, examinees preparing for insurance professional qualifications have filed complaints requesting a broader selection of English certification exams.
Kwon Seok-won, Director of the Policy Improvement Bureau at the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, said, "Expanding the range of English tests accepted in the insurance professional qualification exams will reduce the burden on examinees and promote fairness among national official certifications."
