[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Noh Hyun-song) held a kickoff meeting for the Hwagogbon and 8-dong Alleyway Regeneration Project at 4:30 PM on the 13th in the district office's large conference room, outlining plans to create safe and pleasant alleyways.

At the meeting, Mayor Noh Hyun-song and project stakeholders shared the progress of the alleyway regeneration project and the future implementation schedule.

The district plans to invest a total of 1.1 billion KRW by 2021 to breathe new life into the narrow and aging roads around Hangul Park in Hwagogbon and 8-dong.

This project is themed "Safe and Story-filled Alleyways" and consists of three themes: "Safe Alley" for pedestrian safety of children and the elderly, "Bright Alley" for renovating aging facilities, and "Sharing Alley" for creating community spaces by utilizing leftover spaces.

Mayor Noh Hyun-song said, "We are conducting district unit plans by area to alleviate the sense of deprivation in the relatively underdeveloped old downtown compared to the Magok district," adding, "Through balanced development between the old and new downtown areas, we will create neighborhoods where residents feel attached and want to live."

He continued, "The Hwagog-dong area, developed through land readjustment projects in the 1970s, faces many challenges such as parking issues and aging buildings, creating a gap with current urban regeneration projects," and urged, "We ask everyone to pool their wisdom to achieve tangible and effective results that residents can feel."
