Jinan-gun is targeting consumers by renewing varieties and enhancing agricultural competitiveness through the supply of high-quality domestically cultivated sweet potato seeds.
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Go Dallyeong] Jinan County (Governor Jeon Chunsung) announced on the 13th that it is targeting consumers by renewing varieties and enhancing agricultural competitiveness through the supply of high-quality domestic sweet potato seeds with good taste and yield.
According to the county, from March to early May, a total of 1.1 tons of four varieties including Jinyulmi and Dahomi were supplied in four rounds by the Rural Development Administration and Jeonbuk Agricultural Research and Extension Services, and 2,800 seedlings of three varieties including Pungwonmi were supplied by the Korea Seed & Variety Service.
Among them, Pungwonmi was the most preferred by farmers as it is resistant to vine blight and root-knot nematodes, has excellent taste and yield, and is suitable for early cultivation.
In addition, renewing sweet potato seeds is expected to help increase farm income as it not only prevents yield reduction and degeneration caused by continuous sweet potato cropping but also has about 25% higher yield compared to general seeds that farmers cultivate by themselves.
Kim Pilhwan, Director of the Agricultural Technology Center, said, “We will continuously support the renewal of varieties and the expansion of cultivation areas of domestic varieties through the supply of high-quality seeds in connection with this year’s large-scale domestic sweet potato variety complex project.”
