[Asia Economy Reporter Cho Hyun-ui] The number of confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in South Korea increased by 26 on the 13th due to a cluster infection originating from Itaewon clubs. Among the new confirmed cases, 22 were domestic infections and 4 were imported cases.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the day, the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases rose by 26 from the previous day to 10,962.


The number of new domestic confirmed cases appears to be rapidly increasing as the cluster infection from Itaewon clubs spreads nationwide. New confirmed cases entered the 30s on the 9th of last month and then showed a continuous decline, dropping to 2 on the 6th. However, the number rose again to 18 on the 9th and returned to the 30s from the 10th, then decreased to the 20s from the previous day.


Among the new confirmed cases, 22 were infected domestically. By region, there were 12 in Seoul, 3 in Busan, 2 in Daegu, 2 in Incheon, 1 in Gyeonggi, 1 in Jeonbuk, and 1 in Gyeongnam.


The remaining 4 were confirmed positive after entering from overseas. One was identified through airport quarantine, and 1 each in Daegu, Ulsan, and Gyeonggi were confirmed in the local community.


The number of patients who have been declared recovered and released from quarantine increased by 25 from the previous day to 9,695. The death toll rose by 1 during the same period to 259.
