[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyunjung] The Korea Racing Authority announced that it has decided to extend the temporary suspension of operations at all its business sites, including Seoul Racecourse Park, for an additional week until the 17th of this month to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Although the government has shifted its COVID-19 response level to everyday social distancing and daily life is gradually returning to normal, it was judged that it is still premature to resume horse racing immediately.
The Korea Racing Authority has decided to extend the temporary closure seven times since the emergency suspension was first decided on February 23.
A Korea Racing Authority official stated, "The timing for resuming horse racing will be carefully considered, and preparations for holding races, such as strengthening quarantine measures at all business sites, inspecting racing facilities, and adjusting race plans, are being carried out without any setbacks."
