[Asia Economy reporters Lee Ji-eun and Lim Chun-han] Won Yoo-chul, leader of the Future Korea Party, announced, "I propose a meeting involving the leaders and floor leaders of the Democratic Party, the Together Citizens' Party, the United Future Party, and the Future Korea Party to abolish the semi-proportional representation system."

On the morning of the 8th, at the Future Korea Party's Supreme Council meeting held in the main building of the National Assembly, Leader Won said, "The semi-proportional representation system is nothing less than a malicious trick."

He criticized, "The semi-proportional system causes the proliferation of proportional parties and is a distorted electoral system that leaves citizens unaware of where their votes go. The Democratic Party and the ruling coalition created such an electoral system, then hurled abusive language calling proportional parties 'garbage' and filed complaints with the prosecution, only to betray the Justice Party and demonstrate the essence of trickery by creating two such parties."

Targeting Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party, who threatened drastic measures if the Future Korea Party does not merge with the United Future Party, Won said, "We will handle our affairs ourselves," adding, "It is not the opposition parties that Lee Hae-chan should target with drastic measures, but rather the abolition of the semi-proportional electoral malpractice that confused the public in this general election."

He continued, "Contrary to Lee Hae-chan's claim that the Future Korea Party is a trick satellite party undermining the purpose of electoral reform, it was a clever move taken in self-defense against the malicious semi-proportional system," and warned, "Unless the semi-proportional system is abolished, the proliferation of proportional parties will continue in the next election and the one after that." He urged, "The Democratic Party should take responsibility for the confusion and lead the effort to abolish the semi-proportional electoral malpractice as a matter of accountability."
