[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] A YouTuber operating the channel 'Gapsu Farm' has been embroiled in an animal abuse controversy. The channel gained popularity by featuring a veterinary student caretaker (cat owner) rescuing and treating abandoned animals. The YouTuber apologized, saying, "I am sorry for deceiving my subscribers."
On the morning of the 8th, Gapsu Farm conducted a live broadcast on their YouTube channel and stated, "It is true that the cats did not come from being strays but from a pet shop."
He continued, "I started YouTube on a friend's recommendation and gained attention from subscribers. With that attention, I aimed for a bigger channel," adding, "I sincerely apologize for filming false videos to grow the channel," repeatedly apologizing.
Regarding the animal abuse allegations, he explained, "That is absolutely not true," and said, "I would wake up at 3 to 4 a.m. to feed the cats milk." Along with this, he emphasized that it was not abuse by showing live broadcasts of the cats following him.
Earlier, on the 7th, Channel A reported that a veterinary science student YouTuber, referred to as A, abused animals for views. According to the report, his fellow veterinary students witnessed A starving and abusing animals for filming.
Subsequently, the YouTuber was identified as Gapsu Farm. In response to the controversy, Gapsu Farm issued a statement on his YouTube channel that day.
He said, "I believe many were shocked by the press release posted on a channel called Channel A today," adding, "I was very embarrassed that words like abuse and neglect were edited together with my silhouette."
He continued, "Although I am quite overwhelmed, I will calmly organize and explain everything in a video," and said, "Although the report itself is maliciously edited to the point that calling it an explanation is difficult, I ask those who have trusted me so far not to be too shocked and to wait patiently. Separately, I will respond strongly, including legal action, against the spread of related false information."
