[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Min Jun-young] The new song "Eight," a collaboration between singer IU and BTS's Suga, topped domestic music charts immediately after its release on the 6th.
"Eight" is a pop rock genre song co-written and co-composed by IU and Suga. After its release at 6 PM that day, it ranked first on the real-time charts of major domestic music sites such as Melon, Genie, Soribada, and Bugs as of 10 PM.
"Eight" is also part of IU's "age series," following "Twenty-Three," released in 2015, and "Palette," which tells the story of when she was twenty-five in 2017.
This collaboration, initiated by IU, features IU's vocals and Suga's rap as a featured artist.
In the song description released on the music sites, IU said, "'Eight' is like a short novel confessing my twenty-eight, using the imaginary character 'you' and various metaphors," adding, "My twenty-eight will be remembered as a time of repeated helplessness and lethargy, and a longing for 'Orange Island,' where 'we' were not sad and could be free."
