Sinchon Hongik Bookstore Hosts 'Writing Workshop'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) will hold a "Writing Workshop" every Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Sinchon Hongik Bookstore (2 Yeonse-ro) from June 5 to August 28 to nurture independent publishing creators.

This course, which will systematically teach writing methods, is offered free of charge by the district in collaboration with the online writing platform "Kakao Brunch" and "Hongik Bookstore," a Seoul Future Heritage site with 63 years of history.

In the workshop, writer Choi Bok-hyun will lecture on a curriculum including ▲self-expressive writing ▲how to write simply and clearly ▲outlining a piece ▲writing techniques ▲editing and proofreading, and there will also be performance evaluations and presentation sessions based on writing assignments.

The district is recruiting 20 prospective creators who are local residents under the age of 39, youth, and university students.

Those who wish to participate can download the application form from the Seodaemun-gu website notice or the "Sinchon, Paranggoerae" blog, fill it out, and send it by email (sinchon519@gmail.com) by 5 p.m. on the 22nd.

Participants will be selected through expert review. The district stated, "We hope many apply who want to write their own stories but have not yet started, who want to convey honest and imaginative stories, and who want to share their writing through online platforms."

The district will award certificates of completion to those who finish the course. In addition, outstanding participants will receive the Mayor's Commendation and be given opportunities for independent publishing.

Besides this "educational course," an "open course" will also be prepared, which any citizen can participate in through prior registration. From June to August, three special lectures and book concerts will be held on topics such as online platform writing, online and offline publishing procedures, music, and books.

Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "I hope this will be a great opportunity for prospective creators to explore various aspects of writing methods and the series of processes for independent publishing."
