[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Yeon-ju] Spanish model Jang Min expressed his longing for his father.
On the 5th, the MBC documentary program 'Human Documentary People Are Good' featured Jang Min's life in Korea.
In the broadcast, Jang Min revealed that he was born to a Korean father who ran a Taekwondo school in Spain and a Spanish mother. He shared that although he was always popular due to his cheerful personality, he had painful memories growing up facing discrimination against Asians.
Jang Min said, "My (Asian) father often waited for me in front of school, but I disliked it. I was afraid the kids would tease him too." He recalled that his father always comforted him by saying, "You are special because you have two cultures."
He took out his late father's Taekwondo uniform and said, "My father passed away when he was 19 years old. Before my father had (heart disease) surgery, I was still young. I wanted to spend more time with my friends. I wanted to play with my friends, but my father always wanted me to spend time with family, which I didn't understand."
He continued, "One day, my father told me, 'Dad is having a hard time right now. I want to spend time with Min.' He encouraged us to stay strong as a family, and exactly one month after he said that, he passed away," shedding tears.
He added, "Since then, I have always remembered what my father said. I always keep in mind that family is the most important."
