Adult diapers
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] It has been revealed that half of the adult diapers, mainly used for patients in hospitals, have insufficient absorbency performance.
The Daejeon Chungnam Consumer Federation tested and evaluated 18 adult diaper products on the market for safety and absorbency performance, and announced on the 5th that 9 products showed inadequate rewetting amounts.
Rewetting amount is a key performance indicator of diapers, referring to the amount of absorbed artificial urine that seeps back onto the diaper surface. It measures how much urine from the consumer comes into contact with the skin.
The investigation found that Goodcare, Geumbi, Medifriends Bomnal, Ppalgang Naebok, Ayuredi, Atento, Ease, Crisen, and Point (in alphabetical order) did not meet the standards.
The difference in rewetting amounts between products was up to 174 times. In particular, the amount of urine that seeped out from the Ease Sarang adult diaper was 17.4g, compared to 0.1g for Dasom adult diaper (M size) and others.
All products met the standard for absorption time. The absorption time, which evaluates the time taken for all artificial urine pooled on the diaper surface to be absorbed, showed a maximum difference of 3.3 times between products.
The federation recommended quality improvements to related companies. It plans to propose to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to establish product management standards and quality improvement measures.
Oh Hyeran, Secretary General of the Daejeon Chungnam Consumer Federation, urged, "Since there are quality differences among products, consumers need to make wise choices by considering price, product characteristics, and sizes suitable for their body types."
