[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] Jo Hyun (24, real name Shin Ji-won), a member of the girl group Berry Good, shared news about the North Korean military shooting incident that occurred on the 3rd on her SNS, sparking controversy and heated debate online.

On that day, Jo Hyun shared an article on her Instagram story reporting that North Korean troops fired shots at a South Korean guard post (GP) within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), and that the South Korean military responded with return fire.

Although Jo Hyun did not add any additional comments when sharing the article, some online communities speculated that she might have implied a political intention.

Previously, Jo Hyun caused controversy by sharing an article calling for a ban on Chinese entry during the early spread of the novel coronavirus. The article criticized the current government for not implementing a ban on Chinese entry, as stated by Kim Jin-tae, a member of the Future United Party.

As the controversy grew at that time, Jo Hyun explained in a post on her Instagram, "I didn’t even know who that person was, but the last sentence, 'Let’s save the people first,' resonated with me because I wanted the people to be safe." She added, "I only saw that part and posted it, so I hope people don’t judge or think too deeply. I had no intention. I apologize."

Netizens interpreted that Jo Hyun might have shared the article this time as well to criticize the current government, following the previous incident. As the controversy escalated, Jo Hyun left a comment saying, "I’m worried," and has since deleted all related posts.

Some netizens continued to criticize Jo Hyun’s actions, saying, "Didn’t she share the article with political intentions?"

On the other hand, opinions opposing this view stated, "She simply shared the article, so the political controversy is excessive," and "Political views are personal matters and should not be criticized."
