Indonesia COVID-19 Cumulative Cases Reach 10,843... Surpassing South Korea

[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has surpassed that of South Korea, reaching 10,843 compared to South Korea's 10,780.

On the 2nd, Ahmad Yurianto, spokesperson for the Indonesian government, stated in a briefing that 292 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed, bringing the total to 10,843. Regarding deaths, Indonesia's cumulative death toll stands at 831, more than three times that of South Korea's 250. On this day, Indonesia reported 31 new deaths.

So far, 1,665 patients have recovered, and 79,800 tests have been conducted. However, due to a shortage of diagnostic kits, testing in Indonesia has been slower than in other countries, and the actual number of infections is estimated to be much higher.

In neighboring Malaysia, 105 new COVID-19 cases were added on the same day, increasing the total to 6,176. The death toll was reported as 103. The Malaysian government, noting that daily new cases have remained in double digits for fifteen consecutive days, assessed that the country has entered a recovery phase and decided to ease the 'Movement Control Order' starting from the 4th.
