Seoul Shilla Hotel Launches Apple Mango Bingsu Early
Mango, Honey, Black Sesame, Mugwort Highlighted in Healthy Ingredient Bingsu
Single-Serve and To-Go Bingsu Also Available
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] The mango bingsu from Seoul Shilla Hotel, which formed a so-called 'Mangbing (Mango Bingsu)' fandom and established itself as the origin of hotel bingsu, has returned. Luxury hotels and shopping malls are also strengthening their food and beverage (F&B) competitiveness by introducing differentiated bingsu dessert products to welcome the warmer weather.
According to the hotel industry on the 28th, Seoul Shilla Hotel will start selling 'Jeju Apple Mango Bingsu' from the 29th. Jeju Apple Mango Bingsu is Seoul Shilla Hotel's summer signature menu, first introduced in 2008 and usually released after mid-May every year. However, due to difficulties faced by Jeju apple mango farmers amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the release has been advanced by about 3 to 4 weeks compared to previous years. Jeju apple mango is ripened locally on Jeju Island and, unlike regular mangoes, it is not astringent and has an apple-like fragrance. The Jeju apple mango is piled on top of milk bingsu and served with domestic sweet red beans and mango sherbet. The price remains frozen at last year's level (54,000 KRW).
Yeouido Marriott Executive Apartments will sell 'Honeybee Bingsu' at its contemporary restaurant 'Park Cafe' from next month 1st until September 27th. Honeybee Bingsu, which allows customers to enjoy the harmony of natural beeswax honeycomb honey and domestic red beans, uses only honey, red beans, and milk flakes to bring out the original flavors of the ingredients. The honeycomb honey and domestic red beans stored in traditional Korean earthenware jars meet the savory milk flakes to offer a cool sweetness. Customers who purchase it will also receive a 'Burt's Bees Lip Balm Trio Edition 3' shaped like a honeycomb. The price is 29,000 KRW.
Seoul Dragon City will launch three types of premium bingsu that add healthiness and refreshment to summer dessert bingsu at the lobby lounge and bar 'Megabyte' from next month 1st. The lineup includes 'Mango Bingsu,' harmonizing mango and mango ice cream; 'Black Sesame Bingsu,' topped with red beans and rice cakes to enhance its unique softness and nuttiness; and 'Classic Bingsu,' featuring finely shaved milk ice topped with red beans, injeolmi (rice cake), and nuts. Prices are 38,000 KRW, 35,000 KRW, and 32,000 KRW respectively.
Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas and InterContinental Seoul COEX in Samseong-dong are selling summer premium bingsu until the end of August. At the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas lobby lounge, they offer 'Mango Pudding Bingsu,' topped with mango flesh and mango-shaped pudding, and 'Retro Mugwort Bingsu,' which combines mugwort and red beans. InterContinental Seoul COEX presents 'Grain Bingsu' with black soybean ice cream and black rice popcorn, 'Classic Bingsu' topped with green tea ice cream, and 'Mango Bingsu' with mango sherbet and mango flesh. Some menu items are available in single servings instead of the usual 2-3 person portions.
There are also menu options for those concerned about the COVID-19 situation. Grand Deli sells to-go bingsu. There are two types: 'Mango Bingsu' topped with mango pearls on mango flesh, and 'Classic Bingsu' topped with red beans on milk ice. These are also available as package products including the hotel's private brand (PB) coffee, DeGold. Prices start from 38,000 KRW for 2-3 person summer premium bingsu sold at the lobby lounge, from 27,000 KRW for single-serving bingsu, and from 13,000 KRW for to-go bingsu at Grand Deli.
