[Asia Economy Reporter Ji-hwan Park] The Korean Accounting Association announced on the 25th that it held a webinar on the 24th under the theme "Current Issues and Prospects of Accounting Online Education in the Era of COVID-19." A webinar is a compound word of web and seminar.
This webinar was organized to share knowledge among members experienced in online accounting education. The seminar, conducted online, was attended by stakeholders from academia related to accounting and taxation, as well as from the Accounting Standards Board, the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, accounting firms, and other related fields, creating a knowledge-sharing platform comparable to offline conferences.
The keynote speakers were Professor Woo-jong Lee of Seoul National University and Professor Hye-jung Sunwoo of Korea National Open University, who presented on "The Current Status of Online Accounting Education and Teaching Methods Based on Practical Experience."
Professor Lee predicted the "normalization of isolation and non-face-to-face interactions" following the COVID-19 outbreak. He diagnosed, "Our society is currently on the threshold of entering a hyper-connected society through online platforms." Professor Sunwoo shared vivid experiences aimed at improving communication methods with students attending lectures remotely via online media from a more practical perspective.
Following this, a discussion was held moderated by Professor Wan-hee Kim of Gachon University (Director of the National Accounting and Fiscal Statistics Center), with five panelists including Professor Seung-won Yoo (Korea University), Professor Kyu-young Hwang (Kookmin University), Professor Jong-il Park (Chungbuk National University), Professor Kyung-soon Kim (Chosun University), and Professor Hyung-jin Cho (University of Madrid, Spain), along with 100 online panelists selected from pre-registrants. The discussion was conducted as a webinar using video conferencing solutions, connecting participants in real time via web and mobile app formats.
Jung Seok-woo, president of the Korean Accounting Association and professor at Korea University, stated, "Even after the current COVID-19 situation ends, the behavioral patterns and work styles of social members who have already experienced these changes will not revert to previous ways but will instead promote further changes. It is necessary to collectively consider not only overcoming the current situation but also preparing responses to the demands for educational innovation in the accounting field brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
The webinar video will be uploaded on the Korean Accounting Association’s website and YouTube channel.
