Gangnam-gu Nonhyeon~Hakdong Station Furniture Street Introduces 'Fake Shadow Art'

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jeong Soon-gyun) introduced ‘Fake Shadow Art’ last month in the furniture street of Nonhyeon-dong to offer small pleasures to residents weary from COVID-19.

‘Fake Shadow’ is a design content that draws shadow-shaped paintings on sidewalks, creating an optical illusion for viewers.

This project was prepared to add artistic elements to rigid and uniform public facilities and to develop the Hakdong-ro area into a ‘themed street.’

Seven types of shadows in the shape of ‘Tom and Jerry’ are painted at 20 locations, including the sidewalk in front of Exit 5 of Hakdong Station, providing unique and differentiated attractions.

The district plans to install various design contents additionally from Hakdong Station to Seoul Customs Intersection by August.

Along with this, the district held a large-scale art competition ‘Art Prize’ early last year, exhibiting about 100 works in the Hakdong-ro area to revitalize the depressed local economy and promote cultural and artistic enjoyment among residents.

Gong Seung-ho, head of the New Design Division, said, “We will create an emotional city Gangnam with special themes and stories in preparation for the Dream Society era, where dreams and emotions are well combined.”
