[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kang Juhee] A petition on the Blue House National Petition website requesting to bring a son who was involved in a traffic accident in Japan back to Korea is gaining attention.

On the 16th, a post titled "Please transfer my son who was involved in a traffic accident in Japan to Korea" was posted on the Blue House National Petition website.

The petitioner stated, "My son was studying abroad at Hokkaido University in Japan and was involved in a traffic accident on March 30," adding, "He was hit by a truck while crossing at a pedestrian signal and is currently hospitalized at Hokkaido University Hospital."

He continued, "Fortunately, with the help of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the school, and the Sapporo Consulate General, he was miraculously able to come to Sapporo last Thursday."

The petitioner explained, "My son's condition is acute subdural hematoma, and he is currently in the intensive care unit," adding, "Fortunately, his life is not in danger, but he is experiencing severe delirium symptoms, so his arms, legs, and torso are restrained. It will take about a month to stabilize."

He added, "We plan to transfer him to Korea after stabilization, but there are currently no direct flights between Sapporo and Korea," appealing, "Please allow direct flights to operate as soon as possible. Through diplomatic cooperation, please enable transfer by Japan's doctor helicopter to Narita and then to Korea."

He also said, "My son is studying abroad on a government scholarship (with expenses paid in Japan) as part of the Korea-Japan undergraduate student exchange program, but he cannot sign documents himself, so payment is currently impossible in this condition," adding, "Rent and other expenses are being paid from the scholarship account, so please allow the scholarship payment so that the parents can stay."

The petition has gained over 5,900 supporters as of 8:30 PM on the 16th and will close on May 16.
