[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Moon Seok-jin) was selected as the top municipality to receive the ‘Comprehensive Grand Prize’ in the ‘2020 Youth-Friendly Legislative Awards’ organized by the corporation ‘Youth and Future’ under the National Assembly Secretariat.
The ‘Youth-Friendly Legislative Awards’ have been held for the third year this year to commend institutions for their achievements and contributions to creating a youth-friendly environment.
The evaluation was conducted by a selection committee composed of experts such as university professors, accountants, businesspeople, and about 100 youth judges.
Following last year’s grand prize in the ‘Youth Activity Support’ category, the district was honored to receive the ‘Comprehensive Grand Prize’ this year.
This year’s evaluation covered various youth support projects by local governments, operation of youth participation organizations, hosting and participation in youth events, and the district received high praise in all areas.
In fact, Seodaemun-gu has actively promoted support policies for youth such as university students, early-career workers, and job seekers, achieving continuous results.
To support youth cultural and artistic activities, facilities such as Sinchon Culture Development Center, Sinchon Paranggorae, Mujungryeokjidae Seodaemun, and Creative Play Center have been opened and operated.
For youth entrepreneurship, Sinchon Box Square, Youth Growth Restaurant, Startup Support Center, Startup Dream Centers 1 and 2, and Gajwa Youth Shopping District are operated, and jobs are supported through job fairs, corporate-win-win internship programs, and job cafes.
Efforts have also been steadily made to support housing by establishing Dream Attic 1 and 2, University Student Union Dormitory, Youth Housing Iwailga, Share House Youth Nuri, Youth Future Community Housing, and Station Area Youth Housing.
Additionally, Seodaemun-gu actively holds youth events and encourages youth participation through university-local linked classes, town hall meetings, Youth Week, Youth Challenge Projects, Youth Networks, and Youth Policy Committees.
Moon Seok-jin, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, “We will make greater efforts in various fields such as housing, employment and entrepreneurship, cultural and artistic activities, and space provision to support youth social advancement and independence.”
The award ceremony for the Youth-Friendly Legislative Awards is scheduled to be held during the ‘4th Korea Youth Day’ festival at Yeouido Park, Seoul, on September 12.
