Phone Call with Minister of SMEs and Startups
Complete Reversal of Baedal Minjok's Delivery Fee System Change Decision
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, expressed her welcome on the 10th via Facebook for the decision to completely revoke the fee structure change of 'Baedal Minjok'.
Minister Park stated on Facebook that after finishing her field visit to small business owners in the Gangwon region and returning to Seoul, she called Kim Bong-jin, Chairman of Woowa Brothers, and said, "Well done."
Baedal Minjok is a food delivery application operated by Woowa Brothers. On the same day, Chairman Kim Bong-jin, along with CEO Kim Beom-jun, issued an official apology regarding the fee structure reform. They decided to completely revoke the fee structure changes, including the 'Open Service' introduced on the 1st, and return to the previous system.
Minister Park disclosed the conversation she had with Chairman Kim when she was departing for the Gangwon region that morning. She said, "As I set out early in the morning, Chairman Kim's phone rang. His voice sounded very exhausted and tired."
She continued, "He expressed his feelings, saying, 'Minister, I am very sorry. Contrary to our initial thoughts, many people were very angry, so we are planning to completely revoke the fee structure reform. Above all, I feel most burdened and sorry for having promised you that we would not raise the commission fees.'"
In response, Minister Park told Chairman Kim, "Things in the world do not always go as we wish, but it is at such times that we must not lose our peace of mind." Then she awaited the final decision.
Minister Park had a busy schedule that day, including attending the opening ceremony of the Sokcho Center of the Small Enterprise and Market Service, re-inspecting the recovery of the wildfire damage site in Gangwon region which she first visited a year ago after taking office, and participating in the 'Gangwon Local Creator Forum' discussion. On her way back to Seoul, she heard the news of the complete revocation of Baedal Minjok's fee structure change.
Minister Park immediately called Chairman Kim. When she said, "Well done," Chairman Kim replied, "Minister, I have learned a lot this time." Minister Park encouraged him, saying, "Baedal Minjok exists because there are small business owners. Pull yourself together."
