[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The prosecution has launched an investigation into allegations that the ruling party during the Park Geun-hye administration obstructed the investigation of the Sewol Ferry Disaster Special Investigation Committee (Special Committee).

According to the legal community on the 10th, the Sewol Ferry Disaster Special Investigation Unit (Head: Im Gwan-hyeok, Seoul High Prosecutors' Office prosecutor) has been conducting a search and seizure of presidential records from the Park Geun-hye administration stored at the Presidential Archives in Sejong City since the 7th.

The search and seizure of presidential records is carried out by presenting a warrant issued by the Chief Judge of the High Court in accordance with relevant laws, and reviewing the documents one by one.

The Special Unit is reviewing documents produced by the Blue House during the Park Geun-hye administration to clarify allegations that former ruling party figures obstructed the Special Committee's investigation launched after the Sewol Ferry disaster.

In addition, the Special Unit plans to conduct summons investigations of related individuals, including former Special Committee Vice Chairman Cho Dae-hwan, alongside the review of presidential records.

The Sewol Ferry Disaster Families' Association filed a complaint with the prosecution, alleging that former Blue House Senior Secretary for Political Affairs Cho Yoon-sun, former Saenuri Party Floor Leader Kim Jae-won, and former Vice Chairman Cho obstructed the investigation activities by meeting at the Plaza Hotel on January 19, 2015, to reduce the Special Committee's organization and budget.
