[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The criminal division of the prosecution has taken charge of investigating the case in which the proportional representation candidates of the Open Democratic Party running in this general election reported Yoon Seok-yeol, the Prosecutor General, his mother-in-law, and his wife.
On the 10th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced that it assigned the case involving Yoon's mother-in-law, Choi Mo (74), and his wife, Kim Geon-hee (48), who were reported by Open Democratic Party candidates Hwang Hee-seok, Choi Kang-wook, and Jo Dae-jin on charges including violation of the Capital Markets Act, to the Criminal Division 1 (Chief Prosecutor Jeong Jin-ung).
On the 7th, candidate Hwang and others filed a complaint with the prosecution, alleging that Kim was involved in stock price manipulation of Deutsche Motors and that Choi forged bank balance certificates. Choi was also reported on charges of fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes for being involved in corruption at a medical corporation in Paju.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office had earlier been assigned the case in which businessman Jeong Dae-taek reported Choi and Kim on charges including fraud, and Prosecutor General Yoon on charges including abuse of authority and obstruction of exercise of rights.
