Seoul Nonghyup and Seoul-Gyeonggi Pig Farming Nonghyup Conduct Quarantine Activities to Prevent the Spread of African Swine Fever

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The Nonghyup Seoul Regional Headquarters (Head Lee Dae-yeop) and the Seoul-Gyeonggi Pig Farming Cooperative (Chairman Lee Jeong-bae) announced on the 10th that they conducted biosecurity activities at pig farms to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

Since last year, a total of 435 cases of African Swine Fever have been detected. This year as well, ASF has been detected in wild boar carcasses found in Paju-si, Gyeonggi Province, and Hwacheon-gun, Gangwon Province, maintaining a high level of alert.

The Seoul-Gyeonggi Pig Farming Cooperative continuously guides its member farms on biosecurity rules, and focuses on preventing the spread through biosecurity activities using disinfection vehicles, application of quicklime, and operation of emergency control rooms.

Lee Jeong-bae, chairman of the Seoul-Gyeonggi Pig Farming Cooperative who participated in the biosecurity efforts, expressed difficulties, saying, “Due to African Swine Fever, pork consumption has decreased, causing double hardships for farms.” In response, Lee Dae-yeop, head of the Seoul Nonghyup Headquarters, said, “We will strive to explore various measures to promote pork consumption and provide hope to pig farmers.”
