[Daejeon=Asia Economy Reporter Won Dara] Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, appealed for votes for the Democratic Party and the Together Citizens Party, saying, "We are 2% short of becoming a stable first party."

On the morning of the 10th, at the joint election countermeasures committee meeting of the Democratic Party and the Citizens Party held at the Democratic Party's Daejeon city office, Lee said, "There are 5 days left until the election," adding, "There are many very competitive areas. Except for some regions, the whole country can be considered competitive."

He continued, "We are still 2% short of becoming a stable first party. There are many close races. There are also many close races in Chungcheong Province," emphasizing, "Even if you have a lot of beads, you need to string them to make a treasure. No matter how much you think the Moon Jae-in government is doing well in your heart, you have to vote for the Democratic Party and Citizens Party candidates to get them elected."

He also said, "This election is about overcoming the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and economic crisis, and ensuring political stability," stressing, "The Moon Jae-in government is doing well now, and the opposition party must not win and obstruct the National Assembly." He urged, "We must never be complacent in responding to COVID-19," adding, "Since we need to take proactive measures against the economic crisis, please vote for number 1, the Democratic Party, in the constituencies, and number 2, the Citizens Party, in the proportional representation to overcome this well."

Lee also emphasized pledges for the Chungcheong region. He said, "The Democratic Party and the Citizens Party will be the two wings of development for Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong," adding, "The public institution relocation feasibility study has been completed, and the relocation will soon begin, but this time we will ensure that Daejeon does not suffer any losses."

He continued, "For public institutions relocating to Chungcheong, graduates from universities in Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong will receive balanced benefits as local talents," and said, "Recently, global attention has been focused on K-Bio due to the COVID-19 situation. We will support Daejeon and Chungcheong as the mecca of K-Bio."

Meanwhile, before the meeting on the same day, Lee cast his early vote at the early voting station in Eunhaengseonhwa-dong, Jung-gu, Daejeon. Candidates Hwang Unha, running in this district, Woo Hee-jong, co-leader of the Together Citizens Party, and Lee Jong-geol, standing co-chairman of the Citizens Party's joint election countermeasures committee, were present with Lee during the early voting.
