[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] The Central Ethics Committee of the United Future Party has recommended the resignation of candidate Cha Myung-jin from Bucheon Byeong, who sparked controversy for disparaging the families of the Sewol ferry victims.
The Central Ethics Committee of the United Future Party held a full meeting on the morning of the 10th and decided to recommend Cha's resignation from the party.
The Ethics Committee stated, "It has been recognized that inappropriate remarks during the election period caused harm to the party," and "however, it appears that the remarks were cited in the context of defending and explaining against the opposing candidate's derogatory comment calling someone a 'beast,'" thus making this decision.
Regarding the appeal for retrial by former candidate Kim Dae-ho of Gwanak-gu Gap, who was expelled from the party, the committee said, "There is no reason to cancel the original resolution," and dismissed the appeal.
