Operation of '50+ Second Act Life Education' and 'Post-Meeting Program'... Applications via email or phone to the Elderly and Disabled Department by April 27
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dobong-gu (Mayor Dongjin Lee) is operating the ‘50+ Life School Program’ to support the second act of life activities for the 50+ generation (ages 50-64), who are emerging as a new mainstream in the era of 100-year lifespans.
The district runs the ‘50+ Life Second Act Education,’ a capacity-building program that enables the 50+ generation to take the initiative in planning and preparing meaningful work and activities for the latter half of their lives.
Additionally, a ‘Post-Meeting Program’ is operated after the education ends to help participants redesign their knowledge and experiences.
Last year, the district also conducted humanities lectures and post-meetings to enhance communication skills for the 50+ generation. Building on this, this year’s education focuses on empowering the 50+ generation to independently plan and prepare meaningful work and activities for the second half of their lives.
Moreover, instructors who formed a cooperative through the Life School course at the 50+ Campus will directly operate the program, providing more practical education from the perspective of the 50+ generation themselves.
The ‘50+ Life Second Act Education’ consists of a total of 10 sessions, including △ Inner exploration through art ‘My Youthful Days’ △ Travel Talk ‘My Own Flight Plan’ △ Walking the path with a ‘Mind Backpack’.
In particular, a special lecture titled ‘Community! Connecting People and Regions’ by Lee Daegun, the head of Haeri Book Village in Gochang, is prepared during the course to increase interest.
The education period runs from May 6 to July 8. Classes are held every Wednesday from 3 PM to 6 PM at the district office’s Ginkgo Room and Jaundong Hall.
After the education ends, the post-meeting program will take place from July to November.
Residents who wish to participate can apply by filling out the application form on the Dobong-gu Office website (http://www.dobong.go.kr/) under Notice Board → Events & Recruitment by the 27th, and sending it via email (k2k999@dobong.go.kr), or by calling the Senior and Disabled Affairs Division at the district office (2091-3055).
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis for 40 people. Any 50+ generation resident who wants to find a healthy perspective on life planning for the latter half of life can apply. However, if the education schedule changes due to COVID-19, individual notifications will be provided later.
Mayor Dongjin Lee of Dobong-gu said, “I hope this Life School education will help the growing 50+ generation in planning their second life, and that it will continue as community-linked activities after the education, allowing participants to find value and practice sharing within the community.”
The 50+ Northern Campus, which will provide customized education, counseling, and information services for the 50+ generation, is scheduled to open this October near Changdong Station in Dobong-gu (Changdong 1-8).
