[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jong-gil] A man in his 50s who caused a disturbance wielding a weapon at the campaign site of Oh Se-hoon, the United Future Party candidate for the April 15 general election in Seoul Gwangjin-eul, was arrested by the police. On the morning of the 9th, the Gwangjin Police Station in Seoul apprehended Mr. A, who approached Oh's campaign vehicle with a kitchen knife.
According to the police, at around 11:10 a.m. that day, Mr. A approached candidate Oh, who was campaigning in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu, carrying a pre-prepared weapon, but was stopped by three police officers present at the scene. Candidate Oh and campaign workers were present at the site, and it was confirmed that no one was injured.
Mr. A reportedly stated that after finishing his night shift and trying to sleep, he committed the act out of frustration because the campaign noise disturbed his sleep. A police official said, "We are investigating on charges of special intimidation and violation of the Public Official Election Act (interference with election freedom)," adding, "Considering the seriousness of the case, we plan to request an arrest warrant." Oh's campaign team stated, "The candidate was unharmed," and "The situation was handled well on site, and the campaign resumed immediately."
