[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced on the 9th that it issued an administrative order on the 7th to mandate facility quarantine (including testing before release from quarantine) for overseas arrivals as COVID-19 cases increase worldwide.
This measure comes in response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases among overseas arrivals. Those arriving from abroad residing in Jeollanam-do will be admitted to temporary testing facilities operated by the province to undergo testing and education.
Those who test negative will be transferred to the relevant local government. In Wando-gun, to prevent community infection, overseas arrivals with an address in the county will be quarantined for 14 days in designated facilities within the region instead of home quarantine, and quarantine will be lifted upon a negative test result.
Considering the characteristics of the county being composed of islands, where it is difficult to respond quickly if self-quarantined individuals leave without permission or if symptomatic cases occur, the county decided to mandate facility quarantine at designated locations.
During facility quarantine, 24-hour monitoring and one-on-one dedicated public officials are assigned to strictly manage and prevent quarantined individuals from leaving.
A Wando-gun official urged, “This is a measure for the safety of residents, so we ask for active cooperation.”
Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, Wando-gun is conducting fever checks at major county access points such as Wando Bridge, Gogeum Bridge, Haenam Ttangkkeut Port, and Goheung Nokdong Port, and is actively carrying out disinfection activities targeting multi-use facilities, mobilizing all administrative resources to respond to COVID-19.
