Busan City announced on the 9th that the number of voters for this April 15 general election increased by 0.18% (5,329 people) compared to 2,952,961 voters in the 20th National Assembly election.
For the first time in this election, the voting age was lowered to 18 years old, with 31,445 voters aged 18 in the Busan area, accounting for 1.06% of the total voters.
Among the total voters, males numbered 1,438,850 (48.6%) and females 1,519,440 (51.4%), with female voters outnumbering males.
By age group, voters aged 70 and above were 415,119 (14.04%), those in their 60s were 514,349 (17.39%), 50s were 578,216 (19.55%), 40s were 515,927 (17.45%), 30s were 429,728 (14.53%), 20s were 435,154 (14.72%), and 18-19 years old were 68,480 (2.32%).
The number of voters for the by-elections and re-elections held simultaneously with the National Assembly election was 164,492 in three electoral districts, among which 293 were foreigners. The three electoral districts include one basic local government head in Jung-gu, one metropolitan council member in Nam-gu, and one basic council member in Saha-gu.
Those registered on the voter list can vote by bringing their ID cards either during early voting on the 10th and 11th or on election day, the 15th, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early voting stations will be set up at one location per neighborhood centered around community centers, totaling 205 stations, and on election day, 912 polling stations will be installed across all 16 districts and counties.
A Busan city official urged, "Since this election is held amid the COVID-19 situation, to create an environment where everyone can vote safely, we ask citizens to familiarize themselves with the public guidelines for voting participation and to strictly observe social distancing inside polling stations, such as wearing masks and maintaining at least a 1-meter distance from the person in front."
