[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Leaders of the three countries Korea, China, and Japan, along with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), are expected to hold a video conference as early as next week to discuss measures against the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported on the 9th.
Yomiuri reported that during this meeting, they are likely to confirm cooperation policies such as sharing information on the development of COVID-19 treatments and support for medical supplies.
Earlier, on the 3rd, President Moon Jae-in discussed cooperation measures for COVID-19 response over the phone with Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of Vietnam, the ASEAN chair country. At that time, Prime Minister Phuc said, "We have issued an ASEAN chair statement for COVID-19 prevention cooperation," and added, "We look forward to the successful holding of the ASEAN+3 special video summit, which is being promoted with Korea, the coordinator of Korea-China-Japan cooperation, aiming for early April."
In response, President Moon said, "The ASEAN+3 special video summit is very timely," and added, "Our government will also closely cooperate with the Vietnamese side for the success of the meeting."
