[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the afternoon of the 8th, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha held a phone call at the request of Pekka Haavisto, Finland's Foreign Minister, to discuss cooperation measures including sharing experiences in response to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Minister Kang explained that although the COVID-19 situation in Korea has recently improved, the government is actively responding by not lowering its guard and implementing measures such as extending 'social distancing' for two weeks and online school openings.

In response, Minister Haavisto highly praised Korea's effective response to COVID-19 and the close cooperation between the two countries in the quarantine sector, expressing hope to strengthen cooperation not only bilaterally but also multilaterally through international organizations in the future.

Minister Kang emphasized that the COVID-19 crisis is a global challenge requiring international cooperation and suggested that the two countries review support measures for developing countries at the multilateral level as well.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "Through today's call, the two ministers agreed on the importance of cooperation between the two countries in the COVID-19 response process and decided to continue close communication."
