Damyang-gun Promotes 'Special Support for Self-Employed and Others' to Overcome COVID-19

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Damyang-gun, Jeonnam (Governor Choi Hyung-sik) announced on the 8th that it will promote special support for self-employed and workers to provide emergency livelihood support due to COVID-19.

The county will provide local small business owners who are experiencing a sharp decline in sales due to COVID-19 with public utility fees of 100,000 KRW per month, totaling 300,000 KRW over 3 months, paid once in Damyang Love Gift Certificates.

The target businesses are those registered and maintained in the jurisdiction before the 22nd of last month, with annual sales of 300 million KRW or less, and fewer than 5 regular employees (fewer than 10 employees for mining, manufacturing, construction, and transportation industries). Some industries such as gambling and entertainment bars are excluded.

The application period is until the 29th of next month, and applications can be submitted at the town or township offices where the business is located.

The county will also support special-type employment workers and freelancers such as private tutors, sports instructors, and tourism service workers up to 500,000 KRW per month for 2 months.

Eligibility requires a household income at or below 100% of the median income and registration of residence in the county before the 6th of this month.

Unpaid leave low-income workers will also receive support of up to 500,000 KRW per month for 2 months.

The target is workers employed at businesses with fewer than 100 employees who were enrolled in employment insurance before February 23rd and who have taken unpaid leave for 5 or more business days since the COVID-19 alert was raised to the 'serious' level (February 23rd).

The application period is until August 10th, and applications can be submitted at the county's grassroots economy department.

The head of the grassroots economy department said, “We will make every effort to implement various economic damage countermeasures in response to the current crisis situation to minimize the damage to small business owners and workers.”
