[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] On the 6th, Shinan-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Park Woo-ryang) announced on the 8th that it held a kickoff meeting for the 'Island Food White Paper Publication Research Project' at the 3rd-floor video conference room of the county office, attended by Governor Park Woo-ryang, the deputy governor, department heads, and about 20 others.

Shinan-gun's island food is facing a crisis of extinction and generational disconnection due to the aging of functional holders, the absence of standardized cooking methods for island food, and a lack of response to current trends and customer demands.

To address this, the research project, which started recently, is scheduled to continue until March next year, aiming to investigate Shinan-gun's unique island food and publish a white paper.

Led by Professor Kim Kyung-hee of Mokpo National University’s Department of Food Engineering, the project proposed opinions on defining Shinan-gun island food, producing the Shinan-gun Island Food White Paper and publishing a book, analyzing current trends, and establishing strategies for convergence and fusion industry linkage and development.

Governor Park Woo-ryang said, “Through the publication of the island food white paper, I hope it will raise the value and awareness of Shinan-gun island food and serve as an opportunity to preserve the history and culture of island food,” adding, “Please make efforts to include even the fading foods in the white paper.”

A Shinan-gun official stated, “We will visit residents of each island and actively reflect their opinions to strive for the publication of the island food white paper.”
