KoAsia Foundry Business Growth on Track
Investment Results of System Semiconductor Design Specialist
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyungsoo] CoAsia is showing concrete results in the system semiconductor foundry business sector it entered last year.
According to the IT industry on the 8th, CoAsia's subsidiary CoAsia Semi has been registered as a Design Solution Partner (DSP) company of SAFE. SAFE (Samsung Advanced Foundry Ecosystem) is a system that supports design and verification so that Samsung foundry partners and customers can design products or utilize Samsung's intellectual property rights. CoAsia Semi's DSP company registration can also be confirmed on Samsung Electronics' foundry website.
The industry expects that with the partner company registration, CoAsia will accelerate its foundry business as a DSP. DSP is responsible for implementing customer ideas and algorithms into semiconductor chips and delivering them.
Last year, CoAsia established its Hong Kong subsidiary CoAsia Semi and invested in system semiconductor design specialist companies SemiHow and Nexel. Nexel, acquired by CoAsia, is a company established in 2009 that develops its own brand products such as application processors (AP), graphics processing units (GPU), neural processing units (NPU), and operates a system-on-chip (SoC) design solution business.
Previously, Shin Jihoon, a researcher at Leading Investment Securities, said, "TSMC collaborates with design houses through a system called Value Chain Alliance (VCA), with Global Unichip (GUC) as a representative company," and predicted, "CoAsia plans to fully launch its system semiconductor business centered on Nexel after DSP registration." TSMC is a Taiwanese company ranked number one in the foundry industry.
An industry official said, "Samsung Electronics is expanding investments with the goal of becoming the world's number one system semiconductor company by 2030," adding, "CoAsia's foundry business is also expected to gain momentum."
