Mandatory Self-Quarantine for All Overseas Arrivals, Enhanced Monitoring via Phone and Safety Protection App to Prevent Evasion... 8 Foreign Languages Life Interpretation Support at Jungnang-gu Health Family & Multicultural Family Support Center... Self-Produced 4 Foreign Language Living Guidelines for Overseas Arrivals
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Among the 16 cumulative COVID-19 confirmed cases in Jungnang-gu (District Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi), a total of 8 cases, or 50%, were imported from overseas.
As overseas imported cases continue to occur, the district is making every effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19 community infections by strengthening management of overseas arrivals.
First, the district has placed all 244 overseas arrivals under self-quarantine and deployed 50 investigation staff to conduct daily phone monitoring at least once a day to check for symptoms.
Self-quarantine compliance is monitored in real-time through a safety protection app installed on the smartphones of overseas arrivals and unannounced visits by local community center staff. If a self-quarantined individual leaves the quarantine area, the district will cooperate with the Jungnang Police Station to take measures such as GPS tracking.
Additionally, to block the overseas import of COVID-19, airport buses arriving at the Jungnang-gu drop-off point immediately dispatch vehicles to transport overseas arrivals directly to their residences. This service operates six times daily, and from March 30 to April 6, 79 people used it.
Furthermore, Jungnang-gu has prepared foreign language interpretation services for foreigners among overseas arrivals who are not familiar with Korean.
With the recent increase to an average of 20 arrivals per day from Asian countries, the district is providing living interpretation services in eight languages (Japanese, Chinese, Mongolian, Vietnamese, Filipino, Thai, Cambodian, Uzbek) in cooperation with the Jungnang-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center.
In addition, a 24-hour multilingual interpretation service is operated in connection with bbb Korea.
Guidelines for daily living rules for overseas arrivals have been produced in four foreign languages (English, Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese) and are stocked on transport buses and will be delivered to self-quarantine residences.
The main contents include precautions when living with family or cohabitants, and behavioral guidelines when receiving daily necessities?rules that overseas arrivals under self-quarantine must strictly follow.
Previously, the district provided living support to overseas arrivals under self-quarantine in the form of 100,000 KRW in cash or daily necessities equivalent to that amount.
Alongside this, Seoil University and the Jungnang-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center have distributed 4,550 dental and cloth masks since the 6th to foreign students who have difficulty purchasing public masks and foreign residents not enrolled in health insurance.
Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “First, I thank the overseas arrivals under self-quarantine for their cooperation,” and added, “We will do our best to ensure that no blind spots occur in managing overseas arrivals to block the import of COVID-19.”
