Pohang City Distributes 'COVID-19' Antibacterial Films to Over 2,500 Apartment Elevators

Pohang City Distributes 'COVID-19' Antibacterial Films to Over 2,500 Apartment Elevators

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongnam Pohang City announced on the 7th that it will distribute antibacterial films to all elevators in apartment complexes, where more than 70% of local residents live, to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

On the same day, the city handed over 650 rolls of antibacterial film to Kim Hong-yeol, head of the Pohang branch of the National Apartment Residents' Representatives Association, and Park Won-hwan, head of the Pohang branch of the Korea Housing Managers Association, along with other executives.

The antibacterial film distributed that day can be attached to about 10 elevators per roll, so 650 rolls are enough to cover about twice the total 2,530 elevators installed in 170 apartment complexes throughout Pohang.

Elevators in apartment complexes are spaces with a high risk of COVID-19 infection spreading due to contact between residents when touching the elevator buttons inside and outside.

The antibacterial film contains copper components that inhibit virus proliferation, and when attached to buttons made of plastic or stainless steel, it is known to block cross-infection among users.

Branch head Kim Hong-yeol said, "We appreciate Pohang City’s proactive and meticulous care extending even to apartment elevators, which are blind spots for COVID-19," and added, "We will actively cooperate with members and housing managers to quickly attach the films to apartments to contribute even a little to infection prevention."
