"Let's Overcome COVID-19 Together"... Gwangjin-gu Shares Heartwarming Stories


[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Gwangjin-gu (Mayor Kim Seon-gap) continues to share heartwarming stories of overcoming difficulties caused by COVID-19 together.


On the 23rd of last month, Mr. Jeong, a resident of Guui 2-dong, delivered handmade cotton masks with replaceable filters and extra filters to the community service center. Mr. Jeong said, "I am sorry for not being able to make many masks, and if I have another opportunity to donate, I will make and deliver more."


On the 24th, an anonymous resident of Guui 2-dong, who is a basic livelihood security recipient, donated 30 masks received for fine dust prevention to the community service center, expressing hope that they would be used to help those struggling due to COVID-19.


In Jayang 1-dong, over three days on the 26th, 27th, and 31st of last month, 430 cotton masks were produced in collaboration with the Jayang 1-dong Professional Organizations Union to be distributed to neighbors in need. Additionally, the Jayang Traditional Market Association in Jayang 1-dong saw market merchants voluntarily donate 2 million won in cash.


In Jayang 3-dong, on the 26th of last month, 1,330 protective masks were donated by the Seoul Moving Cargo Business Association (Chairman Moon Hyun-tae). Also, Daega Charcoal Grilled Ribs (CEO Shin Min), located in Jayang 3-dong, packaged and delivered 50 servings of galbitang (beef rib soup) for elderly residents living alone, and Benepharm (CEO Lee Sak) donated 5 million won to help overcome COVID-19.


Furthermore, donations of quarantine supplies and funds from local religious organizations supporting the fight against COVID-19 continue.


On the 23rd of last month, six churches located in Jayang-dong, Gwangjin-gu?Yohan Seoul Church, Seonggwang Church, Bethel Bible Baptist Church, Yeonggwang Church, Wonil Church, and Jayang Church?formed the 'Jayang-dong Church Union' and donated 800 masks to the Jayang 1-dong Community Service Center.


Also, Wonil Church (Senior Pastor Park Byung-woo) in Jayang 3-dong delivered 500 KF80 and KF94 masks, sandwiches, and cup fruits to elderly residents living alone in the area.


Seongdong Church (Senior Pastor Lee Hyang-woo), located in Guui 2-dong, donated 5 million won to support low-income groups affected by COVID-19, and the Seongdong Church Ordained Deacons' Association contributed funds to middle-aged households suffering from COVID-19.


Additionally, Daegongwon Church (Senior Pastor Lee Jun-haeng) in Guui 2-dong delivered 200 hand sanitizers for low-income elderly residents.

Achimbit Church (Senior Pastor Lee Jae-ho), located in Junggok 3-dong, delivered 31 bags of 10kg rice and 31 boxes of ramen to elderly participants in the senior job program whose employment was suspended due to COVID-19. Supssok Saemteo Church (Senior Pastor Kim Yong-jae) in Junggok 4-dong donated 350 masks, expressing hope that they would be used for socially marginalized groups in the area.


Mayor Kim Seon-gap said, "I sincerely thank everyone who has sent warm support through donations of quarantine supplies and funds to overcome COVID-19," adding, "We will do our best to overcome COVID-19 and help residents regain their daily lives."
