[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Changwon City in Gyeongnam announced on the 7th that it is thoroughly preparing to ensure the safety of voters visiting polling stations, fearing that the voter turnout for the 21st National Assembly election on the 15th will decrease due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
In this election, five district National Assembly members will be elected in the Changwon area, and voting will take place at a total of 264 polling stations. The total number of voters is 877,643, including 3,300 high school students aged 18 who will also exercise their voting rights.
The city explained that, according to the special COVID-19 voting management guidelines, it is making every effort to ensure safe voting by requiring voters to wear masks, undergo temperature checks, use hand sanitizer followed by wearing sanitary gloves, and maintain a 1-meter distance at polling stations.
A Changwon city official said, "We are focusing administrative efforts on creating a voting environment to prevent COVID-19 so that citizens can participate in voting with peace of mind," and urged citizens to "exercise their voting rights actively and elect our local National Assembly members through thorough hygiene management."
