Fire Incidents Decrease During Cheongmyeong and Hansik Periods in Jeonnam... 39.5% Drop Compared to Previous Year

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] It has been revealed that both the number of fires and the resulting human and property damages during the Cheongmyeong and Hansik periods in the Jeonnam region decreased compared to the previous year.

According to the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) on the 6th, from 6 PM on the 3rd to 6 AM on the 6th, the number of fires during the Cheongmyeong and Hansik periods was 23 cases, a 39.5% decrease compared to 38 cases last year.

There were no casualties caused by the fires, and property damage amounted to 52 million won, a 70.7% decrease compared to the previous year.

It was found that there were 2 cases each of forest fires and wildfires, while other fires occurred in 5 houses, 2 storage yards, and 3 temporary warehouses.

The Jeonnam Fire Headquarters analyzes that the reduction in fire occurrences was influenced by the special alert duty for fire prevention during this period, increased safety awareness among residents due to fire prevention activities, and the restraint of outdoor activities due to participation in COVID-19 social distancing.

Ma Jaeyoon, Chief of the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters, said, “Many fires occur due to carelessness related to the increase in spring hiking population and the burning of rice paddies and fields during the farming season,” adding, “As the dry weather continues in spring, special caution and attention are necessary.”

Meanwhile, to prevent forest fires and accidents during Cheongmyeong and Hansik, the Jeonnam Fire Headquarters deployed firefighting forces in advance to major hiking trails and park cemeteries. They also focused on preemptive activities to minimize fire damage, such as mobile patrols in fire-prone areas and vehicle broadcasts.
